Fun Baby Photos

A fun timeline of memorable moments of our little man growing up.

Most people or at least my friends look a bit awkward when you show them a photo of a baby, with comments like “yep, that’s a baby”, or an uncomfortable chuckle as they struggle to find anything positive to say about the proud picture you just presented to them.

After watching a film called “The Guard” a proud father tries to show a picture to his college of his baby and his reply was “Babies all look the same. The only time a baby doesn’t look like every other baby is when it’s a really ugly baby. So unless you’re about to show me a photo of a really ugly baby then I don’t want to see it.” This struck a bit of a chord with myself from a mans point of view, I don’t totally agree with what this guy said, but there is an element of truth in there. So to make photos a little more fun and not just another generic baby picture, a project / style we called Material World was born.

With trying to keep things simple and with a zero budget, we decided to use any house hold items that we could use to create our scenes, bed sheets and rugs for backgrounds, a multitude of clothes to create all sorts of items from trees to sharks, and naturally a good sprinkling of teddy bears and toys to finish.

As for ideas and inspiration we tried to plan out a monthly schedule, brainstorming and writing lists of ideas as and when we got inspired, on the occasions when our creative juices dried up, or inspiration was lacking, there is always unlimited amounts of great ideas on our faithful google.

None of the ideas were set in stone, and we changed our mind time and again, mostly due to leaving it too late to take the photo, or trying to make things less complicated with keeping in mind the fact that you are working with a baby, this does limit things depending on their mood, like when he decides to flail around and ruin the whole set we just created! Or if he decides to change the colour of the background to a unsavoury shade of his own creation.

Hope you enjoy our creations and hopefully inspire some of you out there to make your own fun pictures.

Being Dad

Memorable moments or some that you can`t wait to forget.

As a new father I thought it would be fun to share some events that happen along the way, from the fathers point of view, small things that mothers seem to do seamlessly that turn out to be big adventures for fathers, I am sure I am not alone.

After seeing lots of recent certificates created for new fathers, mothers, grandparents and also I suspect some of these were cheeky birthday reminders for more forgettable people out there, either way it got me inspired to finally start writing a blog about my first hand dad experiences.

An overview of being a father for the first time.

Little Bradley is our newborn and it has taken 7 months for things to really calm down now. Juggling work and children can be testing to say the least, all of this with minimal sleep. I am sure everyone has heard friends or family ranting about how little time they have and how fast everything is going by, it`s true, it`s a blur, lots of adapting to new routines and learning new skills, most importantly learning how to control your own emotions and patience. These are the best moments of your life some say, hmmm we shall see, perhaps when we look back in a few years when all the challenging bits fade into a distant memory and we can reminisce over a drink and laugh at how did we get through that, Sleep deprivation, nappy explosions, non-stop dribbling, getting peed on, screaming though the night, etc etc, although now I am struggling to think of many more…………. is that it? Maybe I have just broken through the barrier!? GREAT.

Maybe the attraction for some people with parenthood is the challenge? Is this why some love having more and more children? Is it the thrill seekers out there, that feeling of surviving and achieving? Perhaps not, I am sure most people are simply more maternal than others. Don’t get me wrong I enjoy children, but babies are certainly a challenge of another kind. The lack of communication can be extremely frustrating, our trusty weapons are routine and preparation, but it still feels like they are lord of the manor calling all the shots, we are merely servants to master. But it’s not all bad, they do have endearing qualities, those cheeky moments when they smile, laugh and give you eye contact, although that still doesn’t make up for that smell they just made, or for that bottom noise I just got the blame for! But it certainly helps.

“Don’t worry it gets easier” so everyone says, this is proving to be true. Now whether this is because it’s no longer all new and I Don`t feel like a rabbit in head lights, or the fact that I let it all wash over me now, seen it all before, I find myself comparing the next nappy I have to change with the past explosions, where there was no amount of wet wipes that was ever going to clear that up, and it then doesn`t seem so bad.

We persevere, everything will work out well in the end, until the next adventure, stepping out the door on your own with children! And Daddy daycare. If you would like latest updates please add your email on our blog page

Maybe I will look back sooner than I thought and these are the moments everyone says you will remember forever.

Gift of Time

A Gift of Time

Gift of Time

A Gift of Time

Something that people always want more of, have run out of, or want to remember a moment in time. People have different ideas about the gift of time, is it in the present, the future, how long does it last? I don`t think there is a real answer to that, it all depends on the bearer of the gift of time.

One of the main ideas behind Own a Moment was being able to not only buy Exclusively your time but to present a photo of that event that has meaning, having a photo printed on its own can look great on the wall or shelf, but it does not always tell a story despite the quote “A picture is worth a thousand words” I believe that most photos need explaining, why was this event so great, what meaning does it have? Similar to that in a gallery when a small description explains what the art is about, what inspired the artist, whats actually happening in this photo at this precise time, it also makes for a interesting read for visitors, let other people know more about what was significant at that time, some are perhaps more obvious than others but others carry a small tale of adventure and excitement that is great to share.

I hope more people want to share their adventures and get creative with a bit of story telling by using the gift of time as a new medium of letting friends & family know more about these times.

Start here by finding your favourite time.
